The Women on the Water 2022 Kickoff Cocktail party was held in Riverside, CT on Sunday, April 3. Over 50 women sailors from 10 area yacht clubs attended to socialize and hear the latest news and event updates from member club representatives.

The Women on the Water 2022 Supper Series finale was held in person on Tues, July 12, the first time since 2019. Over 50 women joined together at the table. Unfortunately out of an abundance of caution, heavy winds & approaching storm cells canceled racing.

Origins of the Women's Interclub Supper Series Finals
(According to Indian Harbor Yacht Club!)
In 2013, at the winter women's sailing program leaders' meeting at the Pequot Yacht Club, it was discovered that the WOW East Group was holding a sailing/supper series much like the WOW West Group, so it was decided to hold a Finals combining the two groups.
But where to hold such an event? Alix Hahn from American Yacht Club said to Karen Lau, "Indian Harbor Yacht Club, because you guys have the best food!" So it was decided to inaugurate a WOW Supper Series Finals event the second Tuesday in July, and to include more than just sailors by offering spectator boats and a "supper" to all supporters of women's sailing.

American Yacht Club WOW Rep Sue H reports: The evening started out in typical Long Island Sound fashion with very light wind, so we headed out on the “wing it” program. At the end of Scotch Caps a breeze blew in just enough for 3 short races, a little coaching, some laughter. Dinner at the bar with lively conversation rounded out a fun evening.

Housatonic Boat Club WOW Rep Claudine Disario reports: The Housatonic Boat Club 2022 Inaugural Women on the Water Supper Series was held on August 3, on a fabulous evening (the only thing missing was wind). The entire HBC WOW group was delighted to host WOW of LIS sailors from East and West. It was a beautiful evening sailing on the Housatonic River with much fun, camaraderie and delicious food. We look forward to hosting again next year and continuing the tradition.
Over 40 women sailors and HBC sailing supporters participated, including sailors from Indian Harbor Yacht Club, Old Greenwich Yacht Club, Stamford Yacht Club, Norwalk Yacht Club, Noroton Yacht Club, Pequot Yacht Club, and of course, HBC. Many thanks to captains of Aria, Little Bee, Kona & Whisper for hosting on their vessels.

Indian Harbor WOW Rep Karen Lau reports: It was a bit too blustery to get on the water this past Tuesday at the IHYC's supper series, so we had a treat with our Sailing Director Henry Milette addressing questions about mark roundings, overlapping rights, finishing, and the steps for taking down the spinnaker. Then we tucked ourselves in on the South Porch and had a wonderful supper together! There were two ‘new to the group’ sailors from American Yacht Club and we had 2 IHYC alums in attendance!

Larchmont Yacht Club WOW Rep Anne Stark Locher provided this report from the LYC advanced sailing coach Ashley Dart: Tuesday June 14 brought a lovely evening of light wind sailing. The wind filled in just enough to 6-7 knots from the Northeast. We got off three races, two windward leeward twice around and one windward finish. The fleet was very competitive, with the results consistently shifting around as everyone improved throughout the evening. Overall, a great evening of sailing, learning, and bonding on + off the water!

Norwalk Yacht Club WOW Rep Ann Munkenbeck reports: Norwalk Yacht Club hosted a WOW EAST supper series on June 20th. On a perfect evening with a gentle southerly breeze, 30 plus women sailed out to Greens Ledge Light on 8 Ideal 18s and NYC’s big boat Liberty. Sailing was followed by a buffet dinner on the deck to watch the sunset. It was great fun to see everyone!

Riverside Yacht Club WOW REP Michele Brendel reports: We had a lovely evening of racing with a great turnout and representation from each of the WOW West clubs! Racing was held right off the gas dock in a nice lovely breeze that made for some lively competition. Dinner followed racing in the RYC Trophy Room and the hit of the meal was definitely the delicious desserts!
