National Women's Sailing Association

Dedicated to enriching the lives of women and girls through education and access to the sport of sailing. NWSA holds an annual sailing education day every June and many events around the country.

 

Mystic Seaport / Mystic, CT

Mystic Seaport has many events throughout the year, a robust sailing program, museum exhibits, artist talks, river cruises and many more fun activities.

 

Joy Ride Charters / Westbrook, CT

Captain Joy Sherman offers summertime day charters and sunset cruises for individuals.

 

America’s Boating Club (Formerly known as the US Power Squadron)

Local Boating Education Classes sponsored by the US Sail & Power Squadron - (Now called "America's Boating Club" - searchable by zip code and class type. CT Safe Boating Class, Navigation, boat handling, electronics, etc. The search function is difficult to navigate. You should also find your in local ABC Squadron/chapter. The local chapters, which you pay to join, have many great open-to-the-public events. Nearby chapters include: Greenwich, Stamford (not updated), Darien, Norwalk & Fairfield/Bridgeport. Fairfield County CT is part of the ABC District 2 Area. P.S. Safe Boating Classes must meet the CT DEEP requirements.

 

Yacht Racing Association of Long Island Sound (CT & NY)

Most events/regattas require membership, however, some seminars are open to the public. Calendar is a bit hard to navigate.

 

Hudson River Maritime Museum / Kingston, NY

HRMM holds the annual Women’s Sailing Conference, modeled after the National Women’s Sailing Organization conference - generally in March each year, and co-sponsored by the Kingston Sailing Club. The Museum also has sailing classes and fantastic solar powered boat tours of the river & lighthouse. There are boat building classes, and a Women on the Water Chapter. Well worth a visit!

 

SoundWaters / Stamford, CT

SoundWaters focuses on climate science and education related to Long Island Sound. They have a young Mariners program, kayak and paddleboard rentals, and they offer public Schooner sails. One of their fun annual events is the Flotilla, designed to get as many people out on the water as possible. In 2023 that event will be held on July 15.
